4AD: The Classic Years - College Radio Primer Monday, January 3, 8-10pm

During its classic years from 1980-1992, the British independent record label 4AD amassed an impressive and diverse roster of artists. Formed in 1979 by Beggars Banquet record store employees, Ivo Watts-Russell and early business partner Peter Kent, 4AD was on the cutting edge of independent music. Kent left early on and Ivo began to curate for the label a range of pioneering bands such as Bauhaus, Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance and the Pixies. Not only was 4AD known for its music but also for its collaboration with graphic designer Vaughn Oliver of v23 (formerly 23 Envelope).

From the beginning, Ivo and the bands he signed to 4AD were innovators, and their styles influenced their musical contemporaries and continue to resonate in the music world today.

Join us Monday, January 3 from 8-10 PM on the WXDU College Radio Primer as we track the evolution of 4AD during its classic years (1980-1992).  Tune in to 88.7 FM or stream the show at www.wxdu.org
Show Hosts: Lee Nisbet and Barbara Berry

Check back often, because, if we aren't here at the station playing great music, we will be soon. Thanks for listening. Happy Holidays.

So who is this guy and why is he here?

Why does a 50 something guy join a college radio station? Because it's there?
