3/14/14. 2pm. After an annoying several days of being off the air due to damage from the ice storm last week, WXDU is back ON AIR! Thanks for your patience.
The WXDU Transmitter is currently without power. The electric company is working to restore power to area, but unfortunately this means that our broadcast signal, 88.7FM, is temporarily down. In the meantime, we're still playing the good tunes online. You can listen to our webstream here on this webpage or however you normally listen online. We'll be back!
WXDU is presenting an awesome show at the Duke Coffeehouse. Nathan Bowles, Wood Ear, and Wooden Wand alltogether, and of course it's free with your Duke ID, and $5 for anyone without an ID. Things get going at 9.
I've been thinking about it for a while and tomorrow I'm really going to do it. My shift is 1 hour and the song is 62 minutes long. I'm going to play it. The track is called Heaven Sent and it's the title track from their 1997 album. If you don't know about Half Japanese, you can learn some more here: www.jadfair.org and here: en.wikipedia/wiki/Half-Japanese. Half Japanese was formed by David and Jad Fair in 1974. Over the years they've released tons of albums and collaborated with some pretty great bands/artists, including Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth, and Daniel Johnston. Jad's distinctively awful/great singing and guitar playing contribute to some really great pop songs. I haven't played Heaven Sent on the radio since around the time it came out, so I'm pretty excited about it and I thought I'd just let you know.
WXDU and Three Lobed Records are live at King's Barcade from Noon until 5! Come hear the great lineup of performers. But if you can't make it to the show, just tune into WXDU and listen to the sets live on-air!
WXDU's 6th Annual Record Fair will take place on Saturday, October 1st from 11am until 4pm at the Duke Coffeehouse on Duke's East Campus. Record vendors and collectors from around the southeast will be there with a huge variety of great records, cd's, and collectibles. Also, Will & Pop's and Pie Pushers will be there if you want some food while you dig through the record bins looking for a great deal.
The event is free and open to the public.
Contact loudrock@wxdu.org if you have questions.
Tuesday 3/16/10. 11:30am. We're having some work done on our transmitter, but stick with us, the engineers are on the case and things should be normal soon.
A Hawk and A Hacksaw visited the studios on September 21st and talked to Robbie and Phil B. They also played a few tunes. You can download it all HERE!
