WXDU's Mission
WXDU, as a member of the Duke University Union, exists to inform, educate, and entertain both the students of Duke University and the surrounding community of Durham through quality progressive alternative radio programming. WXDU seeks to give its staff the freedom to pursue their personal aesthetic within the framework of a cohesive format. WXDU aims to provide the listener with an alternative viewpoint untainted by commercial interests. WXDU resolves to maintain good relations with the music industry without compromising its integrity and nationally recognized commitment to quality programming. WXDU resolves to remain a laboratory where all members are free to make and learn from their mistakes.

Polyphonic Perversity 4/15, noon-2pm

 Today's edition of Polyphonic Perversity focuses on the intersection of the spoken word and music.  So we've got Peter Ustinov reading Babar accompanied by excerpts of Poulenc, Sameul Beckett's 1961 radio play Words and Music with music by Morton Feldman from 1987, Harry Partch's final composition, and music by Robert Ashley, Paul Lansky, and more!  Hope you can tune ine!

With Apache’s acid-soaked ‘60s fuzz, and two of Chapel Hill’s rowdiest garage rock bands, it’s bound to be a wild time. Bring your friends, bring your mom, and make sure not to miss what promises to be one of the more memorable rock-n-roll shows of 2012.

Tonight 4/2--Siltbreeze Records on the College Radio Primer

TONIGHT (4/2) on the College Radio Primer, we spend a full FOUR HOURS tracing the history of Philadelphia's Siltbreeze Records and its impact on the outer fringes of indie rock through the 80s, 90s, 00s and today.  Started in 1989 by fanzine writer Tom Lax, Siltbreeze helped bridge a gap between the avant-garde and indie rock, releasing records from some of experimental rock's most influential artists: The Dead C, Charalambides, Harry Pussy, The Shadow Ring, Strapping Fieldhands, Alan Licht and many, many more.  Hear them all TONIGHT, 8PM-12AM.  Listen live on 88.7 FM or stream it at http://www.wxdu.org

Organos on Sunday, 3/4 at 8 pm!

 It's almost spring, flowers are blooming, trees are stretching out their limbs to the sunlight....and I Liked You Better Before You Sold Out is back is full swing, with Organos this Sunday, March 3rd! Organos, the solo project of Maria Albani (Schooner, ex-Pleasant, & other memorable bands), will be having her/their CD release party 3/10 at the Pinhook here in Durham.  Joining Organos will be Nathan Oliver, talking about project The Evil Tenors, featuring the likes of John Harrison (North Elementary/jphono1) and Reid Johnson (Schooner - just Schooner).  Tune in! 

 

Brickside Music Festival

~Brickside is a music festival coming to Duke's East campus on March 24~

We are proud to announce that Kurt Vile, Supreme Dicks, the Postelles, Royal Baths, Gunn Truscinski Duo will be playing at the Duke Coffeehouse. Mark Kozelek (of Sun Kil Moon and Red House Painters) will be playing at a special venue -- many more bands and venues will be announced soon. Stay tuned!

Make the journey to east to listen to over dozen of the best rock and folk bands from the around the country. 

$12 for Duke students
$18 for general admission

Tickets will be available at the Duke Coffeehouse (every day 6pm-2am), the Duke box office (M-F 11am-6pm) and select on-campus locations beginning March 13.
