WXDU's Mission
WXDU, as a member of the Duke University Union, exists to inform, educate, and entertain both the students of Duke University and the surrounding community of Durham through quality progressive alternative radio programming. WXDU seeks to give its staff the freedom to pursue their personal aesthetic within the framework of a cohesive format. WXDU aims to provide the listener with an alternative viewpoint untainted by commercial interests. WXDU resolves to maintain good relations with the music industry without compromising its integrity and nationally recognized commitment to quality programming. WXDU resolves to remain a laboratory where all members are free to make and learn from their mistakes.

Filthybird & Moving Island - 1/23

 On I Liked You Better Before You Sold Out this coming Sunday, we're going to have a chat with Renee and Brian of Filthybird, about their upcoming shows, latest CD "Songs For Other People" and life in general.  We'll also be sharing our time with the good folks at Moving Island, a community education facility with the focus on arts and living.  They'll be having the "Buoyancy Benefit" for Moving Island's jump start! DTFH Records 2 Year Anniversary Party

Troika Music Festival on WXDU!

Durham's own Troika Music Festival will be going on from Nov. 4-6 in various venues throughout town - and you can get in for free.  Two Troika passes will be given away during the Vinyl Revolution show 10:30 am - noon Fri. Oct. 29, and on I Liked You Better Before You Sold Out, Sun. 6-7 pm Sun. Oct. 31 (Halloween!).  On ILYBBYSO, Savannah and Joey O will be talking with Greg Humphreys and Scott Carle of Dillon Fence! They'll be playing at Motorco for Troika, Fri. Nov. 5.

 Django Haskins of the Old Ceremony will be chatting it up with Joey O and Savannah on Sunday 10/3, on I Liked You Better Before You Sold Out! He'll be talking about their new CD, "Tender Age".  Tune in from 6-7 pm!

 

Mel York and Alison Martlew of the Butchies on Sunday 7/18

Mel York and Alison Martlew of legendary queercore band The Butchies will be on with Savannah and Joey O at 6 pm Sunday, July 17th on I Liked You Better Before You Sold Out! We'll be discussing their reunion show at the Cat's Cradle which be happening on Wednesday, July 21st.  The Cuntry Kings will be hosting, and local favorites Pink Flag will be opening.  Check it out!

 

The Feast of St. Cecilia on WXDU!

No band interviews on "I Liked You Better Before You Sold Out" on Sunday, Nov. 22, rather, we'll be sharing an hour of classical music with Savannah on the Feast of St. Cecilia.  St. Cecilia is the patron saint of music, and highly revered in both religious and secular arenas, for not only her patronage, but her story of martyrdom.  WXDU decided to devote some time to this familiar personage in music and we'll be interspering the Mass of St. Cecilia by Charles Gounod with more information on her life and devotions.  Tune in from 6-7 pm!

Pistil & Lud this weekend at WXDU!

 Be sure to check out Durham's own PISTIL, who will be in the station from 5-6 pm Friday with Savannah on the Vinyl Revolution! They'll be talking to us about the band, life in general, Troika, and will be sharing some of their most influential artists.  Local legends Lud will also be on I Liked You Better Before You Sold Out on Sunday, 6-7 pm with Savannah, instruments in hand for an acoustic set and interview.  Don't forget!
