WXDU's Mission
WXDU, as a member of the Duke University Union, exists to inform, educate, and entertain both the students of Duke University and the surrounding community of Durham through quality progressive alternative radio programming. WXDU seeks to give its staff the freedom to pursue their personal aesthetic within the framework of a cohesive format. WXDU aims to provide the listener with an alternative viewpoint untainted by commercial interests. WXDU resolves to maintain good relations with the music industry without compromising its integrity and nationally recognized commitment to quality programming. WXDU resolves to remain a laboratory where all members are free to make and learn from their mistakes.

Spider Bags on Sunday 7/15!

July's edition of I Liked You Better Before You Sold Out will be happening on Sunday, 7/15 featuring SPIDER BAGS! Spider Bags' third full length, "Shake My Head", will be out in August and we'll be playing it for everyone's listening pleasure.  Tune in at 8 pm! 

 

Baudelaire in a Box Preview Show!

 On Sunday 5/20, I Liked You Better Before You Sold Out is back, with Roberto Cofresi of New Town Drunks coming in and chatting about Baudelaire in a Box, a serial cantastoria based on famed French poet Charles Baudelaire's "Les Fleurs du Mal" - this performance being put on by Chicago's Theater Oobleck, it will have performances by New Town Drunks, Curtis Eller, Jason Kutchma (Red Collar), and Dexter Romweber.  In addition, scrolling images known as "crankies" will be featured.  We'll be playing some music from all artists involved and we'll even read some poetry.  A ILYBBYSO first, I think...

Organos on Sunday, 3/4 at 8 pm!

 It's almost spring, flowers are blooming, trees are stretching out their limbs to the sunlight....and I Liked You Better Before You Sold Out is back is full swing, with Organos this Sunday, March 3rd! Organos, the solo project of Maria Albani (Schooner, ex-Pleasant, & other memorable bands), will be having her/their CD release party 3/10 at the Pinhook here in Durham.  Joining Organos will be Nathan Oliver, talking about project The Evil Tenors, featuring the likes of John Harrison (North Elementary/jphono1) and Reid Johnson (Schooner - just Schooner).  Tune in! 

 

Dex Romweber Duo on I Liked You Better Before You Sold Out Sunday 12/16

Tune in on Sunday 12/16 on the new time slot for ILYB, 8 pm, for the Dex Romweber Duo! Dex & Sara have just come off a lot of touring (including opening up for the Meat Puppets - no kidding!) to promote their latest CD, "Is That You In the Blue?" It'll be interesting... 

 

No More Fake Labels Showcase 10/16

 I Liked You Better Before You Sold Out returns this month on Sunday, October 16th, with Misty Dawn Briggs, Tony Raver, and riding shotgun, Roberto Cofresi and Diane Koistinen, for the No More Fake Labels Showcase coming up at CMJ! Also, Kym Register of Midtown Dickens and owner of the Pinhook here in Durham, will come in to discuss the venue's Kickstarter project for a new sound system and to promote that cause... 

 

Jennyanykind on Sunday 8/28

 In anticipation of their upcoming show at Hopscotch, Jennyanykind will be stopping by WXDU from 6-7 pm on Sunday 8/28, Hurricane Irene permitting! They're rock veterans, so that means a lot of musical history and sharing their latest release with us, their split 7" with the Moaners ("Jam Up and Jelly Tight") - including the plans for the near future.  

 

Hopscotch Music Festival Preview Sunday 8/14

 To get folks psyched up for the Hopscotch Music Festival on Sep. 9-11, Savannah will be hosting Hopscotch founders Greg Lowenhagen and Grayson Currin on I Liked You Better Before You Sold Out this Sunday, Aug. 14.  We'll discuss how the festival got started, the initial success, their hopes for this second Hopscotch, and listening to artists that will be performing there.  Listen in! 

 

New Town Drunks on Sunday, 7/17

 On I Liked You Better Before You Sold Out this coming Sunday, Roberto and Diane of New Town Drunks will be stopping by to chat about their upcoming album release party, which will be taking place Sat. 7/23 at the Station in Carrboro.  The new 10", Going, is LIVE to boot.  I promise, they will not be drunk.  

 

Whistlin' Dixie/This House On Fire - Sunday 7/10

  I Liked You Better Before You Sold Out Has a rare split show coming up! First, Meredith Heil, who filmed "Whistlin' Dixie", a documentary about LGBTQ music in the South, in 2009-2010 and was a guest on WXDU last year, will be having the premier of the movie this Sunday at the Pinhook at 8 pm.  WXDU gets a name drop.  How cool is that? Visit www.queersouth.com for more info.  Then, up and coming Raleigh band This House on Fire will keep you entertained for the rest of the hour, and we'll be playing some tracks from their randomly burnt CD.  Tune in!
