WXDU's Mission
WXDU, as a member of the Duke University Union, exists to inform, educate, and entertain both the students of Duke University and the surrounding community of Durham through quality progressive alternative radio programming. WXDU seeks to give its staff the freedom to pursue their personal aesthetic within the framework of a cohesive format. WXDU aims to provide the listener with an alternative viewpoint untainted by commercial interests. WXDU resolves to maintain good relations with the music industry without compromising its integrity and nationally recognized commitment to quality programming. WXDU resolves to remain a laboratory where all members are free to make and learn from their mistakes.

WXDU News, Sports, and Information Sunday (12/21) 6:00-8:00 p.m.

The Endless Frontier is taking a holiday break, so we start at 6:00 tonight with a look at the 1914 Christmas Truce, a time during which troops violated military law and held an unofficial truce in order to celebrate Christmas. The truce occurred one hundred years ago, as soldiers in the midst of the First World War longed to be home with loved ones for the holiday. Later in this episode of Humankind, produced in conjunction with WGBH-Boston and titled Humankind Special: The Christmas Truce, the producers share the story of another peace effort during World War I: conscientious objection.

  • Isla Earth explains how military tanks could make electric cars more efficient.
  • 13-year old reporter Shanze Tahir of Y-Press talks about gender stereotypes and underrepresentation of women in the media.
  • With Good Reason’s Allison Quantz shares how one program in Virginia hopes to help the growing numbers of college-aged young Latinos complete their educations.
  • EcoReport examines the decline of the monarch butterfly population with an interview with a biologist who is working to add the species to the federal endangered species list.

Finally, WXDU Sports is at 7:30. Martin Kang will feature college basketball on tonight’s show. He’ll have analysis and post-game coach and player comments for the Duke women’s basketball team’s last three games, including today’s match against Kentucky. He’ll also discuss the Duke men’s team’s recent games and have a recap of both the NCCU men’s and women’s basketball seasons so far.
