WXDU's Mission
WXDU, as a member of the Duke University Union, exists to inform, educate, and entertain both the students of Duke University and the surrounding community of Durham through quality progressive alternative radio programming. WXDU seeks to give its staff the freedom to pursue their personal aesthetic within the framework of a cohesive format. WXDU aims to provide the listener with an alternative viewpoint untainted by commercial interests. WXDU resolves to maintain good relations with the music industry without compromising its integrity and nationally recognized commitment to quality programming. WXDU resolves to remain a laboratory where all members are free to make and learn from their mistakes.

Soul Souvenirs: Thursday 4/19, 10 - 11 a.m.

Tune in to Meg and Emily's Cherry-Coloured Funk from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Thursday April 19th to hear historian Josh Davis and Carolina Soul's Jason Perlmutter play local and regional soul music from the 1960's and 1970's and discuss the Soul Souvenirs exhibit at the St. Joseph's Hayti Heritage Center that opens the same evening. 'Soul Souvenirs: Durham's Musical Memories from the 1960s and 1970s', is the gallery exhibit for Bull City Soul Revival, a locally-based humanities project seeking to recover Durham's rick heritage of soul, funk and R&B music. The Soul Souvenirs exhibit tells the story of Durham's African American community in the 1960s and 1970s through radio, television, record stores, night clubs, high schools, churches, and the civil rights and black power movements of the era. Thursday evening's gallery opening at the St. Joseph's Hayti Heritage Center will also feature a panel discussion with Durham musicians of the era from groups like the Black Experience Band and Tracy and the Jammers.

 
The Bull City Soul Revival (B.C.S.R.) is a community-based, ad-hoc collaborative initiative comprised of Durham County Library, St. Joseph Historic Foundation, Carolina Soul, North Carolina Central University, Duke University, North Carolina State University and the Durham Jazz Renaissance Foundation, Triangle Virtual Media, whose primary purpose is to host an educational, interactive performance, community colloquium in 2012 highlighting the rich musical legacy of Durham’s rhythm and blues tradition.
