2.  How can I listen to WXDU?
You can listen to WXDU on your FM radio if you tune into 88.7.  The station is on Duke's East Campus, but the transmitter and tower are out in the Duke forest closer to Hillsborough.  You can usually pick the signal up pretty well in Durham and slightly to the east.  Weather patterns can sometimes affect clarity.  You can also listen to WXDU programming via the internet.  You can listen by clicking on the "Listen Now" link in the top right corner of this page.  We stream our live broadcast in 2 main formats, MP3 (mainly for iTunes users, but you can listen on many other media players) and Ogg Vorbis (read about Ogg Vorbis files HERE).   Decide which format you prefer and click it to open it in your chosen media player.  WXDU also has a few programs that are available as free podcasts via iTunesU.  You can check those shows out on the Podcasts page of directly in the iTunes store by searching for WXDU.

4. Can you air a public service announcement for me/my organization?

We’ll be happy to assist in raising awareness of events and issues for your organization.  Keep in mind that we are a non-commercial educational radio station, so we can’t advertise, but we can definitely give information about events and issues that benefit our community.  Please email psa@wxdu.org with all your information.  You can also mail us information about your group/event.  Send it via snail mail to WXDU PSA Director, PO Box 90689, Durham, NC 27708.  Be sure to include dates, times, locations, event descriptions, contact information, and any other relevant material.  Please allow some time for us to get your PSA up on the air.

5. I heard some information I needed on a PSA and didn't have the chance to write it down. Who do I contact?

You can call up the DJ on the air and ask him for the details.  The number is 919-684-8870 or 919-684-8871.  If that DJ is no longer on the air, you can email our Public Service Announcement Director.

6. How can I get my music on the air?

Send us your music.  If its good, we’ll play it.
Mail it to us at WXDU Music Director, PO Box 90689, Durham NC 27708.
Once we receive your music our Music Staff will listen to your record and if we like it, we'll play it.  Please allow us some time to review it before you start calling our Music Directors.  You can reach them at 919-684-2957.  Please don't call the request line.  Please feel free to include info with your music submission (i.e. track lists, album artwork, etc), but don't worry about sending a press kit.  Its not needed.  If you are touring, let us know well in advance, so we can try to help you out.  Please keep in mind that we can't (and don't want to) play everything.

7. How can I become a DJ for WXDU?

Training groups for new DJs are formed 3 times a year, during the Spring, Summer and Fall. Training takes about 6 weeks. You do not have to be a Duke student or have any experience to train-- just a love of many kinds of non-commercial music! If you'd like to be included in our next training group, contact our training director at training@wxdu.org

8. Are there other ways to get involved at WXDU?

We’re always looking for volunteers to pitch in here at WXDU.  Becoming a DJ is just one way to get involved.  If you are interested in learning more about music and also helping us select the music that goes on the air, then you might want to come join Music Staff.  They meet at the station every Sunday at 6pm.  You can contact our Music Directors at music@wxdu.org.  If you are interested in promotions, station operations, news/talk programming, or public affairs you can join our Community Affairs Committee.  They meet every other Monday at 6:30pm at the station.  You can contact our Community Affairs Director at promotions@wxdu.org.  If you’re not sure where you might fit in, just email our General Manager at gm@wxdu.org, and they’ll be happy to talk with you.

A horrifying document of legal alcohol and meat substitute consumption, slatternly and incubic behavior, and moderate aerobic activity. Pray, turn your eyes away before you are irrevocably scarred! If that's not enough, we're on myspace, facebook, and friendster.
