NOW PLAYING:

specialty music shows

Most of the schedule at WXDU consists of what we call Playlist Shows.  These shows are basically open format and play music from all genres.  We take special effort to include new music in these shows and each week our Music Staff adds about a dozen new releases to the mix.

Other shows at WXDU focus on a specific genre of music.  You can see some descriptions below:

College Radio Primer: (Mondays 8pm-10pm) The College Radio Primer covers a particular era or musical scene that was crucial to the development of what we think of as modern College Radio (which kinda-sorta began with the FM radio era in the early 70s, and really began to flourish in the early 80s).

Nobody's Driving: (Monday 10pm-12am) Hardcore and punk show.

Bull City Cosmic Hoedown: (Tuesdays 6pm-8pm)  BCCH features roots music from the back-roads fo America -- vintage blues, country, honky-tonk, cajun, old-time string bands, gospel, jug bands, New Orleans R&B, sacred steel, western swing, and plenty of songs about food.  Lots of vinyl and 78's, as well as the occasional live preformance from local and touring trad/roots groups.

Azucar y Candela: (Wednesdays 6pm-8pm) Specializing in dance rhythms of the Latin Carribean, Azucar y Candela is the place to go for old school salsa, timba, and the latest Latin jazz -- from the folkloric roots in Cuba and Puerto Rico to the modern sounds of Havana and New York.

Funk Disco Dance Friday: (Fridays 6pm-8pm) FDDF brings the pre-party every Friday with a solid helping of world-wide dance music, both old and new -- not just funk and disco, but also hip-hop, reggae, techno, electro, house, new wave, afrobeat, italo, and more.

Mondo Mundo: (Saturdays 2pm-4pm) WXDU's world music show features music from all corners of the earth, from filed recordings of Bahamian work songs to gritty Senegalese hip-hop and Parisian cafe music. You'll even here some music that hasn't got a name yet!

Beyond Good and Evil: (Saturdays 6-8pm) A weekly metal show.

Out There a Minute w/ Jazz Deejays: (Sundays 10am-12pm) Bearing tremendous respect for the art and history of jazz, our programs feature a challenging range of styles.  These include but are not limited to: hard bop, free jazz, avant and straight-ahead.

Polyphonic Perversity: (Sundays 12pm-2pm) A show for contemporary, avant-garde "classical" music in its multiplicity of guises and incarnations.

Divaville Lounge: (Sundays 2pm-4pm) Two swellegent hours of classic jazz and pop vocalists, big band, and lounge/exotica.

Local Live: (Sundays 4pm-6pm) WXDU is committed to nuturing the local music scene, and our resident local music guru is here to do just that.  Presenting the best and brightest local bands, new and classic releases, and the occasional live performance on Sunday afternoons.

Who's Got the Cuckoo??!!: (Sundays 9pm-10pm)  WXDU's weekly, hour-long blast of sounds from across th spectrum of garage rock.  From wild '60s sounds up to the present day, we offer a variety of delights, often with a particular theme.  Dig it!
