WXDU's Mission
WXDU, as a member of the Duke University Union, exists to inform, educate, and entertain both the students of Duke University and the surrounding community of Durham through quality progressive alternative radio programming. WXDU seeks to give its staff the freedom to pursue their personal aesthetic within the framework of a cohesive format. WXDU aims to provide the listener with an alternative viewpoint untainted by commercial interests. WXDU resolves to maintain good relations with the music industry without compromising its integrity and nationally recognized commitment to quality programming. WXDU resolves to remain a laboratory where all members are free to make and learn from their mistakes.

* Ill Wind People Of The Night Flashes Sunbeam This was the one-and-only album by this Cambridge, Mass. band, from 1968. It was on ABC Records back then. Now re-issued with *excellent* bonus material on CD.
* Majic Ship Wednesday Morning Dew (VA) Wednesday Morning Dew: Realistic Patterns, vol. 2 - Orchestrated Psychedelia from the USA Psychic Circle ~1970. The band apparently called it quits when their communal house on Staten Island burned to the ground in 1971, destroying all their instruments too.
* Horseback Tyrant Symmetry The Invisible Mountain self-released new local music
Aretha Franklin Spirit In The Dark Spirit In The Dark Atlantic 1970. This begins a set dedicated to the memory of James Luther (Jim) Dickinson, who died this past Saturday at age 67. He worked with frikkin' EVERYBODY. On this 1970 Aretha record, he played keyboards.
Toots & The Maytals (I've Got) Dreams To Remember Toots in Memphis Mango Reggae great comes to Memphis. 1988. Produced by Jim Dickinson.
Rolling Stones Wild Horses Sticky Fingers Rolling Stones Records 1971. That piano work is JD's. He was there for the recording sessions in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. "Wild Horses" has some minor key piano parts, and Ian Stewart (Stones' pianist & road manager) wouldn't play minor chords. Enter Jim Dickinson... the rest is history.
